Johnny Depp's Security Guard Says He Saw Injuries On Actor's Face

Johnny Depp's Security Guard Says He Saw Injuries On Actor's Face

His employer is suing ex-wife Amber Heard in a $50 million defamation case

Johnny Depp's security guard claims he noticed numerous injuries on the actor's face during his marriage to Amber Heard.

Malcolm Connolly detailed the injuries while testifying in court yesterday (Thursday 28 April), where his employer is suing ex-wife Heard for $50 million (£38.2 million) in a defamation lawsuit over domestic abuse claims she made in a 2018 article in The Washington Post.

Scot Connolly – who began working for Depp in 2016 – said all was rosy in their relationship to begin with.

Testifying remotely, he said: "At the beginning [it was] all lovey-dovey. Everything was great. Honeymoon period was on, and yeah it was good.

"It was great to see Johnny happy again. Amber was lovely, charming – as she usually is – and good as gold."

But the former couple soon began arguing with increasing frequency, and Connolly said Heard 'could get a frosty at the drop of hat' and over time he said she 'started getting grumpy', while Depp was 'getting quieter'.

He said: "Amber started to change. Amber started getting a bit more feisty, demanding.

"I could see that Amber wanted to wear the pants in this relationship. That was pretty obvious."

While he said he never witnessed any physical violence between the two, Connolly said he often heard them arguing and began noticing injuries on Depp's face – though he said he never saw any on Heard.

"What I noticed straight away was most of these marks were happening on the left hand side of his face," he said.

"There would be scratches on his neck. Maybe a fat lip in the corner, a bruising in the eye socket.

"It was getting more regular. Not every week, but it was definitely happening."

Referencing a photo from their honeymoon, Connolly pointed out apparent swelling on the side of his face.

Asked what he thought had happened, Connolly said: "Either he's walked into a door, or a door has walked into him."

This was not the only time Connolly elicited laughter from the Virginia courtroom.

When asked about a fight between Depp and Heard in Australia, he confirmed he heard shouting coming from the inside of the building, but couldn't make out the exact words that were being said.

Heard's lawyer then asked Connolly to confirm if Depp was trying to urinate in the foyer of the property.

The security guard paused for a moment and looked confused by the question, before bluntly replying: "No."

The attorney asked whether Malcolm saw the actor's penis – which prompted an objection for relevance – but the security guard replied: "I think I would have remembered seeing Mr Depp's penis."

Depp is suing Heard for $50m (£38.2m), and she has issued a counterclaim for $100m (£76.4m).

The pair began dating after meeting on the set of 2011 film The Rum Diary and got married in 2015. Heard obtained a restraining order against Depp the following year and they finalised their divorce in 2017.

In 2020, Depp lost a libel case brought against The Sun over an article in which he was labelled a 'wife beater'.
