After much speculation as to whether Kate Moss will testify in the Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard defamation trial, it looks like the British model will take the stand on Wednesday, 25 May.

Sources close to the case exclusively confirmed the news to the NY Post, saying she'll appear in a video deposition in the final week of the ongoing trial.

The news arrives after Heard brought up a rumour that Depp pushed Moss down a flight of stairs when the pair dated in the 90s.

While giving testimony on 5 May, the Aquaman star alleged that the first time she punched Depp in the face was during an incident involving her sister Whitney.

"I just see my little sister with her back to the staircase and Johnny swings at her and I don't even wait," she said, adding: "In my head I just instantly think of Kate Moss and the stairs and I swung at him."

Heard later confirmed that the Pirates of the Caribbean star did not push her sister down the stairs.

Depp's legal team appeared to celebrate the moment in court as legal experts suggested Heard name-dropping Moss on the stand could give them opportunity to bring the supermodel in as an impeachment witness.

During the previous UK defamation case against The Sun, Heard claimed she'd been told by two people about the rumour.

However, the incident has never been anything more than hearsay, with Mitra Ahouraian – an entertainment lawyer – telling the NY Post at the time of Heard's statement: “That’s one mistake that [Amber Heard] made was bringing up Kate Moss, which potentially opened the door to [Depp’s team] bringing [Moss] on as an impeachment witness – and Moss saying, 'This never happened.'"

The 48-year-old model, who dated Depp for three years after the pair met in late 1994, has never spoken of any violence in the relationship.

Many of you will be well aware that Depp is currently suing Heard for $50 million (£38.2 million) over domestic abuse claims she made in a 2018 article in The Washington Post.

The trial enters its sixth and final week at Virginia's Fairfax County Circuit Court today (23 May), with proceedings set to wrap up on Friday.

Although the trial was supposed to end last week, the date was extended to make room for new testimonies and evidence.

The jury will have the final say after the closing statements are made.
