Australia's International Border Has Finally Reopened Since March Last Year

People flying into NSW and Victoria won't have to do hotel quarantine from today as well.

Australia's international border has finally reopened after 590 days of being shut.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison locked us away from the rest of the world in March last year as the coronavirus pandemic was getting into full swing.

While the government allowed some Aussies to leave for serious circumstances, the majority of us weren't able to, meaning we've missed out on weddings, funerals, births and a whole host of other things.

Now that a decent portion of the country has been full vaccinated against the coronavirus, the border has been allowed to reopen today (November 1).

Planes from overseas have already started arriving into some Australian airports and many are gearing up for their first trip abroad in 18 months.

Kate Jackson is one of those who will be on one of the first flights out of here and is looking forward to attending a wedding in the UK that has been already cancelled twice.

"I'm fully vaccinated, so hopefully it wouldn't be too much a problem for my health," she told 9News.

"I'm just more concerned about any travel implications because you have to test negative to board the flight."

Another massive win starting today is that Aussies returning from overseas to New South Wales or Victoria won't have to quarantine in a hotel room for two weeks.

As long as these passengers are double dosed vaccinated with an approved vaccine and have a negative test just before leaving and just after arriving then they're all sweet to quarantine at home.

People flying into other Australian cities will still have to quarantine at a hotel.

Despite Australia opening up to the world, there are still some Aussie states that haven't opened up internally to other states.

One bloke who arrived on a flight into Sydney this morning has lashed out at West Australian Premier Mark McGowan for dragging his feet.

The passenger's mum is slowly dying and he doesn't know when he'll get to see her now that he's finally been allowed to fly to Australia.

"I'm really scared and emotional because I want to see my mum as she's not well," he said, according to News Corp.

"The doctor says she hasn't got long, and I just have to do everything I can to get to WA. I love her so much and I just want to get there. I love her heaps and I can't wait to see her.

"We know we have to protect people's lives but you have to bring families together. Please, it's so important."
