Bondi just went from hipster to hoity-toity after an apartment officially took the crown as the most expensive apartment ever auctioned in Australia.
The apartment, which is located at 16/16 Notts Avenue, had been owned by Mayo Hardware director and former world champion yachtsman James Mayo.
The yachtsman has since upgraded to an oceanfront Point Piper mansion that he purchased for $36 million last year and he wanted to offload his epic Bondi pad.

Originally listed with a reserve of $17 million, the four-bedroom home boasts breathtaking panoramic views of the ocean, a stunning open plan design, and overlooks the iconic Bondi Icebergs.
As the auction kicked off over the weekend, a whopping 65 bids were placed on the beachside mansion.

It was eventually purchased by a local buyer for an eye-watering final price of $20.1 million, eclipsing the previous owner's initial reserve.
"For what is arguably Bondi Beach's best penthouse, it encompasses both the best position and the best aspect that Bondi has to offer," the official listing's description read.
"You will be instantly impressed by this penthouse's exceptional privacy, stunning panoramic ocean views and divine north east facing aspect, only to be blown away again by its sleek open-plan interiors and superb indoor/outdoor flow."
The impressive sale comes just months after the official auction record (non-apartment) was smashed with the $24.6 million sale of a five-bedroom home located in Vaucluse, as per Domain.

Guess we'll start cutting down on our avo on toast so we can one day afford a shared garage somewhere in Sydney...
