Miss Brazil 2018 Suffers Heart Attack And Dies After Undergoing Routine Tonsil Surgery

The former beauty pageant winner was in a coma for two months due to the medical procedure.

Miss Brazil 2018 has died from a major heart attack after undergoing a tonsil operation.

The Daily Mail reports that back in March, beauty queen Gleycy Correia suffered severe bleeding and a heart attack days after her tonsillectomy operation, a standard surgery removing her tonsils.

Earlier this week, the former Miss Brazil passed away in a private clinic after being in a coma for two months due to the medical procedure.

Correia’s family priest Lidiane Alves Oliveira shared to Mirror: “She went to [the local hospital] Unimed and had a cardiac arrest on April 4.”

She continued: “Since then, she was in a coma, with no neurological activity, and today she passed away.”

Following her death, Correia’s body was sent to the Forensic Medicine Institute of Macae for an autopsy.

Pastor Jak Abreu, who was close to the Brazilian beauty’s family, issued a touching tribute via Instagram, according to the outlet.

He wrote, in part: "God chose this day to collect our princess.

"We know that she will be greatly missed, but she will now be brightening the sky with her smile."

He added: “To everyone who prayed, thank you very much. May the Lord reward every prayer of love and all these days together.

“She fulfilled her purpose and left her legacy of love in us. We ask for your prayers for the family and friends that the Holy Spirit may bring comfort in this difficult time.”

Correia’s funeral took place yesterday, Tuesday (June 21), and her burial will happen later today (June 22).

A Miss United Continents Organisation spokesperson issued a statement via E! News, describing her as a ‘beautiful young lady with such joy for life’.

The statement added: “I want to extend my most sincere condolences to her family and to her mentor Henrique Fontes who gave us the gift of knowing a beautiful, smart and sweet girl who leaves with us the happiest memories that will ever be kept in this organisation.”

The 27-year-old was crowned Miss Brazil in 2018 and came from humble beginnings, growing up in a low-income family.

Following her win of the national title, Correia worked as a model and beautician, often sharing her beauty treatments on social media with her fans.
