Guests have reflected on their stay at what is being called the UK's worst hotel in the UK's worst hotel chain.

The Grand Hotel Scarborough looks like it will live up to its name on the outside, however once travellers go inside, they're confronted with something very different.

Some guests have described finding other people's clothes underneath the bed, one even had a bird's nest coming out of the ceiling, while others noted the bird poo on the window sill and wallpaper peeling off the walls.

A quick glance at the online reviews for The Grand Hotel show people who have stayed there were most happy about the time they gave the keys back.

One person wrote on Tripadvisor: "We moved room three times. First room wasn't clean, toilet and bath had been used. Second room underground, stank, shower broken, roof leaked. Third room had a spiders nest and used razor under bed, nasty smell."

Another said: "STAY away from this disgusting run down dump of a hotel it is surrounded by drug addicts and antisocial behaviour. When you see white lightning plastic cider bottles littering the steps of this hotel and people smoking weed in the rooms shouting and fighting in the corridors be ready for a night of hell."

Yikes.

A third added: "This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in!! Under no circumstances would I ever recommend to anyone, not even an animal. Not only is it unclean, mouldy and quite frankly falling to pieces, you can be sure to share your stay with local homeless drug addict's."

The Grand Hotel completed construction way back in 1867 and it appears the company that owns it isn't a stranger to bad reviews.

The Grand Hotel in Blackpool was hit with similar complaints earlier this year after a guest claimed to have found three condom wrappers and tissues in the bin of his room, according to the Mirror.

Britannia Hotels was rated the UK's worst hotel chain for the eighth year running by Which?

In a statement following the devastating ranking, Britannia said: "We are totally committed to providing a safe environment for visitors. We have so far spent around £2 million on Covid-19 precautions, but we accept there is more to do."
