Joe Biden will not only be making history with his administration by having the first woman and person of colour in the Vice President role, but his dog Major will be the first rescue animal in the White House.

People went absolutely nuts when the news was revealed and now there is a way to keep up to speed with Major and the Biden's other dog Champ.

The dogs have been given social media accounts on Instagram and Twitter and you'll get to follow their every move while Joe Biden is President.

The Twitter account has already amassed more than 136,500 followers since it was set up on the weekend, and you can expect that number to continue to grow rapidly. Similarly, the Instagram account has 31,400 followers.

The account's bio reads: "We are the First Dogs of the USA, Champ and Major Biden. You can call us #DOTUS. We love nom noms, snuggles and we can't wait to explore the WH!"

For whatever reason, the Twitter account has been suspended at the time of writing.

Donald Trump was the first US president since James K. Polk (1845 to 1849) not to bring a pet to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

According to TMZ, Champ has been a member of the pack since 2008 and Major joined in 2018.

Joe and Jill fostered Major at first when their daughter showed them a litter of puppies needing to be temporarily homed. Naturally, the pair became somewhat set on Major and adopted him from the Delaware Humane Society.

Over the weekend, Democratic candidate Biden passed the 270 Electoral College votes needed to remove Donald Trump from the White House with the declaration of the results from Pennsylvania.

Following the win, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris shared a video of her on the phone to Biden where she says: "We did it, we did it Joe. You're going to be the next President of the United States."

She went on to tweet: "This election is about so much more than @JoeBiden or me. It's about the soul of America and our willingness to fight for it. We have a lot of work ahead of us. Let's get started."

After it was announced that Biden is to become the 46th US President, he conveyed a similar message to Harris writing: "America, I'm honoured that you have chosen me to lead our great country.

"The work ahead of us will be hard, but I promise you this: I will be a President for all Americans - whether you voted for me or not. I will keep the faith that you have placed in me."
