Mark Wahlberg said the burger chain was more sophisticated and substantially healthier than other alternatives.

There's a new burger outfit in Sydney, this time from the famous Wahlberg family.

The business is backed by actor Mark Wahlberg and was created with his brothers, Paul and Donnie.

The first store opened in the US in 2011.

It was also the subject of a 10-season reality show, Wahlburgers, on A&E, which ran from 2014 to 2019, airing 95 episodes.

There are already around 50 stores worldwide, but today's opening marks the first Aussie foray for the chain.

Mark Wahlberg, who has starred in films including Boogie Nights, The Other Guys, Planet of the Apes, Ted and The Other Guys, suggested the operation is vastly different from other fast food restaurants.

"Wahlburgers is an experience - it's fast casual, but we have [a] full bar," he told Sunrise this morning.

"It really is a whole kind of experience that we've provided.... We have a full bar, alcohol, and we feel like we have much better quality, much healthier offerings as well, and you can have anything and everything at Wahlburgers."

In Australia, the burger chain has partnered with the Mustaca family who built the United Cinema chain.

And there will be some Aussie twists on the menu.

Paul Wahlberg came up with the Vegemite aioli, which is one of 17 sauces on offer.

The 'Our Burger', which is chef Paul's choice - with beef patty, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, American cheese and Paul's signature Wahl sauce - can also be turned into an 'Aussie Burger', by adding beetroot, pineapple and egg.

Good Food reports that Byron Bay, Surfers Paradise and Warriewood are also slated for openings.

The first Aussie Wahlburgers restaurant is located in Sydney at Opera Quays on Macquarie Street.
