Google Searches For Vasectomies Skyrocketed In America Over Fears Abortion Rights Will Be Banned

There’s been a 1,650% increase in the word being searched in recent days.

Google searches for 'vasectomy' have skyrocketed in the US in the past few days, following a leak that suggested the American Supreme Court could soon overturn abortion rules.

It appears the leak has caused loads of Americans to research abortion rights as well as how vasectomies work, presumably if they soon find themselves in a state or country that doesn't allow women to terminate a pregnancy.

Utah, Wyoming and Idaho have the highest rates of people looking up 'vasectomy' this week, according to Google Trends.

The US hit its peak for searches yesterday (May 4), only a day after documents revealed the Supreme Court wanted to overturn the landmark Roe v Wade ruling.

Along with vasectomy searches, ‘abortion rights movements’ searches have increased by 2,550 per cent and ‘women’s rights’ searches have also increased by 550 per cent in the past week.

In the past seven days, ‘anti-abortion movement’ searches have also increased by 750 per cent.

It comes after the US Supreme Court had their draft majority opinion on abortion rights leaked to the press.

The draft proposal, written by Justice Samuel Alito and obtained by Politco, would also reject the 1992 decision Planned Parenthood v. Casey.

Justice Alito wrote: "Roe was egregiously wrong from the start.

"Its reasoning was exceptionally weak, and the decision has had damaging consequences.

"And far from bringing about a national settlement of the abortion issue, Roe and Casey (1992) have enflamed debate and deepened division."

The leaked memo has also disclosed that other right-winged Justices, including Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett, supported Justice Alito’s decision.

The leaked document has been met with heavy criticism from leaders and pro-choice activists all over the nation.

The New York Times reports that Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi called the bill 'monstrous' and an opportunity 'for Republicans to obliterate even more of our freedoms'.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer vowed he would ‘fight’ against the draft bill.

He said: "A vote on this legislation is not an abstract exercise. This is as urgent and real as it gets," he said.

"We will vote to protect a women's right to choose, and every American is going to see on which side every senator stands."

Hacking collective Anonymous has also issued a threat to the Supreme Court shortly after the leaked documents.

They took to Twitter and wrote: “Repealing Roe v Wade isn't going to go the way SCOTUS (Supreme Court of the US) or the GOP (the Republican Party) thinks it's going to go," Anonymous warned on social media.

"Play with fire, get burned. Don't say we didn't warn you. Expect us."
