Wilderness survival show Alone is coming to Australia this year, and it's looking for 10 people who believe they have what it takes to go it alone.

Alone drops people in the remote wilderness with no camera crew, no devices and no assistance.

They are forced to battle nature, hunger and their own minds as they strive to be the last person standing.

They document their own journey and the winner receives a 'life-changing prize'.

The Australian show will screen on SBS and be produced by ITV Studios Australia.

"The program will feature the most diverse cast of self-reliance experts yet as they brace the elements and fight to stay alive on their own terms, with nothing but what they carry on their backs," the broadcaster said.

Casting notes for the show ask would-be applicants if they are a 'true' survivor in the 'practical sense of the word'.

"No matter whether you label yourself an adventurist, bush crafter, expert hunter, fisher, forager, self-reliance expert, prepper or survivalist.

"No matter which traditions your knowledge, methods and skills derive from.

"If you have what it takes to keep yourself alive, with only basic tools and equipment, and if you're ready to put yourself to the test in the survival challenge of a lifetime - we want to hear from you," the application form says.

Warning: Spoilers about past seasons of Alone are contained below

There have been eight seasons of the series in America.

The first, in Quatsino Territory near Port Hardy, British Columbia, was won by Alan Kay, who stayed in the wilderness for 56 days.

The first contestant exited after 12 hours due to a 'fear of bears'.

Other contestants dropped out along the way for the same reason, with others citing storms, wolves, consuming salt water and needing to be with family as reasons for leaving.

The longest stint came in 2020's season seven.

Roland Welker spent 100 days along the shore of the east arm of the Great Slave Lake in the Northwest Territories of Canada.

The first contestant left after 10 days when they lost their fire starter.

Multiple contestants in that series were medically evacuated including for a partially torn MCL, food poisoning and frostbite.

Several others tapped out due to 'starvation'.

The Australian show is set to air in 2023.
