Fans gather outside hotel to pay tribute after Liam Payne dies aged 31

The former One Direction singer died aged 31

Fans have gathered to pay tribute to Liam Payne following his death aged 31.

Payne, who is best known for his time in the band One Direction, died after a fall from a balcony in Argentina.

While the exact circumstances surrounding his death have not been confirmed, spokesperson for the Security Ministry of Buenos Aires, has said that the singer had 'thrown himself from the balcony of his room'.

The spokesperson, named Pablo Policicchio, said police were directed to the hotel in response to an emergency call.

He went on to say that police were contacted due to an 'aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol'.

Fans have gathered outside his hotel, as tributes begin to pour in for the former One Direction star.

Payne was posting on his Snapchat story just an hour before his death, though it has not been confirmed if there were scheduled posts.

Paris Hilton posted on X to say: "So upsetting to hear the news of @LiamPayne passing. Sending love and condolences to his family & loved ones. RIP my friend"

Jedward posted: "Sending strength to Cheryl and his son Bear and all the One direction Family. RIP @LiamPayne".

Charlie Puth posted on his Instagram story, saying: "I am in shock right now. Liam was always so kind to me. He was one of the first major artists I got to work with. I can not believe he is gone..."

Spotify posted on Twitter to say: "We are deeply saddened by the news of Liam Payne's passing.

"Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and the many fans who loved and supported him."

Fans online are devastated following the news, with One Direction considered by many to have been some of the first viral-celebrities to a certain generation.

One fan posted: "I feel like most of us are so shocked over liam payne's death cause that man once was part of something our 13 year old selfs could never imagine living without. like why am i actually speechless right now. it's so weird."

Another said: "Rest in peace Liam Payne. You will be forever loved, always missed and never forgotten.

"Sending so much love to those who loved you, your family, your friends, your One Direction brothers and the Directioners, and so much love to your son Bear.

A third posted: "Absolutely gut wrenching news that Liam Payne has died. I sincerely hope his family, his friends, and those who knew him get the support they need in this awful time. RIP Liam."
