Kevin Spacey has posted a bizarre video online after being charged with sexually assaulting a teenager.

The 59-year-old actor will appear in court on 7 January in relation to the incident, which is alleged to have occurred in a bar in Nantucket, Massachusetts in July 2016.

Yesterday, the two-time Oscar winner denied any wrongdoing in a video posted online, in which he appears in character as Frank Underwood, the merciless politician from the Netflix series House Of Cards.

In the video, entitled 'Let Me Be Frank', Spacey adopts the accent of the character and addresses the viewer directly down the camera - in a fashion that became the character's hallmark across the five seasons in which he featured.

In the video, he says: "I'm certainly not going to pay the price for the things I didn't do.

"You wouldn't believe the worst without evidence, would you? You wouldn't rush to judgements without facts.

"Of course some believed everything. They're just waiting with bated breath to hear me confess it all.

"They're going to say I'm being disrespectful, not playing by the rules.

"Like I ever played by anyone's rules before. I never did. And you loved it."

The three-minute video is the actor's first public appearance since the first accusation of sexual assault was made against him last October.

The alleged victim of the sexual assault in Nantucket is the son of former television news presenter, Heather Unruh.

Last year, she accused the American Beauty actor of buying her then 18-year-old son drinks at the bar in Massachusetts, where the legal drinking age is 21. She said the actor then groped her son.

Actor Anthony Rapp made the first allegation against Spacey in October 2017, claiming he made a sexual advance in 1986. Since then, numerous other accusations have emerged.

Spacey denied any memory of the incident but apologised, before flatly denying the subsequent allegations.

The controversy surrounding Spacey has seen him dropped from several high profile roles, including his role as protagonist Frank Underwood in House Of Cards, who was killed off prior to season six.
