A Liverpool fan who was reported missing following the Champions League final on Saturday night was actually arrested by Spanish police after being found 'semi-naked' in the street.

Macauley Negus, 23, disappeared in Madrid after watching Liverpool beat Spurs 2-0 - leading family and friends to take to social media asking people to keep an eye out for him.

However, it has now been claimed the young fan had actually been arrested for assaulting two police officers who went to his aid after finding him lying in the street.

Sources reportedly close to the incident, told the Mail Online: "Two municipal police officers spotted him lying semi-naked and seemingly unconscious in Goya Street in central Madrid, around 2am on Sunday morning.

The Liverpool fan vanished in the post-match celebrations.

"They went to aid him but he was very drunk and reacted badly by punching and kicking the two officers who both suffered minor injuries.

"He was arrested for assault and has been held at the Salamanca district National Police station.

"Police had a missing persons' report but the reason officers didn't realise he was the man who had been arrested was because he gave them an incorrect name as a result of the state he was in.

"His name was logged as Mac Kullen, which was the name he gave."

It's understood the Reds fan was brought in front of a judge today in a private hearing and is expected to be released on bail pending a further investigation.

The fan had driven to Spain along with his dad, from their home in Plymouth and the pair were due to head home on Sunday.

However, Macauley reportedly vanished during the post match celebrations and a search was started by his family and friends. He was last seen wearing a white shirt, white shorts and trainers.

His brother Ashley, and sister-in-law, Carla, both went on social media and asked people to get in touch if they had any information of his whereabouts.

Carla shared a post in Instagram, writing: "Missing in Madrid!!! Macauley Negus last seen Saturday 1st June in Madrid! He's my brother in law! Please If you have any information or know anything please contact me."

Posting on Twitter, Ashley shared a photograph of his brother, with the caption: "Lads please retweet this get him to contact me please."

In a later statement, he confirmed the news that his brother had been found. He said: "To everyone who has helped my family during this tough time I want to say thankyou we have now found Macauley I will update a statement this evening! My family wants everyone to know we our forever in your debt as with out your help we would not have found him thank you everyone."
