Did you know that McDonald's staff take a photo of you at the drive-thru? Well, they do, and an employee has explained why:

Sharing her insider knowledge to TikTok, Maccies worker Katie revealed it's a way to keep track of who ordered what.

In the video, which has been viewed more than five million times, Katie talks her followers through the whole set-up and how it works.

The 17-year-old says: "Ever wondered how McDonald's know whose car is whose?

"There is a camera and it takes a picture of you and your car."

The teen explains that a camera takes a snap of the car when the customer chooses what they want, and links it to their order.

This means employees just have to match the order to the car and they can hand over the correct food.

And with that in mind, Katie joked: "So maybe don't pick your nose when you order... because we see it and we judge you."

While some people said they guessed as much, others were shocked by the revelation.

One user commented: "Wow really? I had no idea there were cameras."

Katie explained that the camera helps keep a track of orders.

While another added: "Ayo that's some new new. We didn't have that when I worked there last year."

But it's not just what they can see that might surprise you, but also what they hear.

Commenting on the post, another user claiming to be an employee revealed: "I'm waiting for the day they realise we hear them the moment they pull up, to the moment they leave the speaker box."

But this isn't the first time Maccies staff have given us a peek behind the curtain.

Last year, a worker cleared up any confusion about the McFlurry spoons.

The funny-shaped utensil has caused confusion in the past with some people thinking it is a straw that you can suck the ice cream through. Wrong.

A worker, who uses the TikTok handle @marzpire, explained it's real use - which is to mix up the frozen treat so that the choice of chocolate combines with the ice cream.

She posted the 13 second clip on to the video sharing app and captioned it: "If u didnt know, now u do #mcflurry #mcdonalds #icecream #mcdonaldssecrets #howto #canada."

On the video she wrote: "Have you ever wondered why you can't drink out of a mcflurry spoon???" Before adding: "What the spoon is really for... To MIX!!"
