Even the most confident fliers feel a bit unsettled when the aircraft starts making weird noises or jolting about during turbulence. The flight attendants may tell you everything's absolutely fine, with huge grins on their faces to mask any potential concern, but you sometimes feel fairly unconvinced as the cabin rattles around you.

But what about if you suddenly clocked some casual fireballs? Yeah, NO THANKS.

Terrifying footage shows the exact moment a plane's engine starts shooting fireballs from its engine, which is just about the hairiest flying experience imaginable. The aircraft was eventually forced to land.

The video footage was captured by a passenger, who spotted the fireballs shortly after the aeroplane took off from Santos Dumont Airport in Rio de Janeiro, heading for São Paulo.

The passenger was sat near the wing of the plane when they captured the shocking clip, which shows blasts of fire shooting from the plane's wing as it flies above Rio de Janeiro. Worse still, even more fireballs start shooting out from the engine before the clip comes to an end.

Local media reports confirmed there had been technical problems with the aircraft.

Brazilian airline Gol also said 'a technical limitation was found in one of the engines' after takeoff, and that therefore an 'alternate landing' was necessary.

In statement, Gol wrote: "Gol informs that after flight G3 1025 took off, the flight crew identified a technical limitation in one of the engines, making an alternate landing necessary at the international airport of Rio de Janeiro.

"After the disembarkation of the passengers the aircraft was taken for evaluation by the maintenance team. The passengers were re-accommodated on the next flights and have now reached their destination.

"The company reiterates that it implements the highest safety standards, which is Gol's number one value."

While such incidents are rare (so don't cancel that LADs' holiday to Magaluf just yet), last May equally shocking footage captured the moment a plane hit power lines and crashed into a street in Washington, erupting into a fireball.

Officer Myron Davis from Mukilteo Police told King 5: "It struck the light pole where it erupted a fuel cell. It spilled fuel onto the roadway, onto a vehicle which ignited."

Eyewitness Amanda Hayes told the media outlet: "We definitely felt the fireball as it went over the van. I'm just thankful to be here.

"He didn't want to hit a building, obviously; he didn't want to hit an area where people are, and he saw this street was empty. He did a fantastic job."

Police said the plane had taken off from a nearby airport when it suddenly lost power. Unable to restart the engine, the pilot told investigators he had quickly diverted the plane to a quieter area so it would cause less of an impact. He and his passenger walked away from the crash with no injuries.

What an absolute hero!
