A teacher who was jailed for sleeping with three of her pupils has had her plea to cut her sentence short rejected.

Brianne Altice, who is serving a 30-year jail sentence, blamed her actions on self-esteem issues and has said she's 'extremely remorseful' for it.

Her sentence-cutting bid was put forward to the parole board. They were rejected until her next hearing in April 2019.

Altice, 37, said: "They said this and that and made me feel good about myself.

"So I justified everything. There's no justification for it.

"I clearly lost sight of all my values and my principles and was seeking inappropriate means to address my own issues. Issues I'm very aware of now."

In response to her plea, Robert Yeates, the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole Vice-Chairman, questioned her awareness on the severity of what she was doing.

Robert Yeates, the board's Vice-Chairman, responded: "Did you grasp the gravity of this?"

Altice said: "I do not believe I did. This was my doing. This was no one else's fault but my own.

"This was not my ex-husband's fault, or the school's fault, or my students' fault.

"These were my poor, poor decisions. I'm very aware of it now and I am very remorseful. I regret the decisions I made that brought us here."

Altice will have to complete a two-year sex offender programme as part of her sentence and fund £600 towards the counselling cost for the two boys.

One of the victims described Altice as a 'teacher with benefits' and revealed the affair continued even after she had been arrested in July 2015, pleading guilty to three counts of forcible sexual abuse.

Her husband subsequently filed for divorce and gained custody over their two kids.
