Teens Warned Against Copying 'Morning After Pill' Trend On TikTok

People think that the tablets found inside pregnancy test is emergency contraception

Women are being warned against eating the 'pill' they find inside Clearblue pregnancy tests after the worrying trend has gone viral on TikTok.

Videos have shown teenagers prising open the tests and eating the tablet they find in there believing it to be the morning after pill.

However, it's been confirmed by the pregnancy test manufacturer that the tablets are not fit for consumption, and are most definitely not the morning after pill, known as Plan B in the US.

In a statement on its website, Clearblue said: "We are aware of videos circulating about Clearblue pregnancy tests and the tablet found inside.

"Clearblue pregnancy tests do NOT contain Plan B. All our tests contain a small desiccant tablet which is included to absorb moisture and should not be eaten.

"If accidentally ingested please seek medical advice and for any further questions contact our care line at 1-800-321-3279."

There's nothing more exciting than emergency contraception, apparently.

The tablets are used to make sure that the tests remain as effective as possible and don't suffer any damage from moisture or accidental contact with liquids.

They're similar to those little paper bags of silica gel that are often found in shoe boxes that have 'Do Not Eat' printed on them. Alone, silica is non-toxic, but it's often mixed with other chemicals to improve the absorbant properties.

Despite the warning on the Clearblue website, videos are still emerging on social media of people shocked by the revelation, with more filming themselves taking the desiccant tablets.

One of the videos that is doing the rounds has been viewed more than 3,000 times and has the caption: "There's actually plan B pills in Clearblue pregnancy tests."

Another girl filmed herself opening the plastic test and saying: "I saw on TikTok that there is a Plan B in all pregnancy tests so we had to try in."

Aside from the potentially dangerous side effects of the tablet, even if they were the morning after pill, it's likely that by the time a woman has bought and used a pregnancy test, emergency contraception would no longer be effective.

All in all, and I can't believe I'm typing this - don't eat random tablets when you have no idea what they are.
