Brian Baumgartner has revealed that he made a whopping $1 million (£741,000) from sending fans personalised videos on Cameo while in character as his infamous character from The Office.

The 48-year-old played accountant Kevin Malone in The Office US and has proved to be one of the platforms most popular stars.

He charges £167 for each personal message he sends and a mega £1,850 for corporate messages.

The actor told BBC: "Here's how I view Cameo.

"This is not about me, or about getting a message from me.

"I view it as an attempt from two people who want to make a connection."

He suggested his videos can provide some fun for family members who used to watch the show together but no longer live in the same household.

He added: "They want to make a connection so they give this message from me because it brings them back to a moment that they shared together.

"As long as I keep focused on that, and how much people seem to be enjoying it, then it's been, actually, very rewarding."

Cameo CEO Steven Galanis says the star's huge earnings has made him one of the biggest pulls on the platform, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

However, after finding out the news, Brian explained that he was initially a bit hesitant when starting out on the app.

He went on to say: "I finally decided to give it a try.

"I know this sounds Pollyanna or politically correct, but I was on a very popular beloved television show.

"There's a comedy that I'm known for, which is helpful, but really what happened during this time is that people wanted to make a connection.

"It's not really about me. I'm really the person who gets two people together.

"I get messages from people who are estranged from loved ones, and they are throwing a buoy out in the water.

"Or it's, like, a father and daughter watched the show together or friends that may not have seen each other in a while.

"They use it to find a connection, come closer together or use my character, Kevin, to make somebody laugh. That's how I view it and I really do enjoy that."
