An unassuming house in California has gone viral after social media users noticed an eerie detail in its online listing, having clocked a bunch of 'creepy' mannequins hanging out in several rooms.

The detached house in South Lake Tahoe has gone on market for $650,000 (£462,000), with its Zillow listing billing it as a 'unique opportunity'.

In the interior photos, it soon becomes clear that the unique twist is a gang of mannequins posing in many of the home's rooms, with absolutely zero explanation as to why.

In one photo, there are seven female mannequins wearing ballgowns, all chilling in the kitchen and living area (with more out of shot), while another snap shows an eerie scene of five females, one male, two children and a baby - oh, and a small statue of the Virgin Mary, too.

The online listing for the property says: "With a little love, this duplex has great income property potential.

"Centrally located and close to casinos, beaches, shopping, skiing and the only cinema in town.

"There is a spacious 3 bedroom 2 bathroom unit upstairs and a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom unit with a 1 car garage downstairs.

"Large driveway that can accommodate numerous cars. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity! Property to be sold as-is."

Other photos show that not all of the rooms come with the terrifying guests, with another kitchen unit in the 'multi family' duplex resembling a normal family home.

But it would appear that 'multi family' in this instance could see you living with a coterie of incredibly unnerving mannequins, which have sent the house viral.

One person tweeted the listing, writing: "Absolutely nothing creepy to see here."

Their tweet has more than 8,000 likes and 1,000 comments from people who feel equally freaked out, with one person commenting: "*scrolling* la la la la... bit messy... la la... they might've tidied up first.. . la la JEZUS F***ING CHRIST ON A CRACKER!!"

Another person wrote: "I can't tell what scares me more: the collection of hairless little girl dolls, or the "seductive" creature stretched out on the floor??? YIKES!!!"

A third added: "I like that the Virgin Mary is joining in on the fun."
