The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, or Will and Kate to their pals, have named their new son Louis Arthur Charles.

The new baby is the third child for the couple - they already have four-year-old George (George Alexander Louis) and two-year-old Charlotte (Charlotte Elizabeth Diana), who are third and fourth in-line to the throne respectively.

Louis is now fifth-in-line to throne. Prince Harry is now sixth.

People had been (impatiently) waiting for the name to be revealed since Monday, with bookies seeing a flurry of activity.

Australian High Commissioner Alexander Downer told Will that the baby might suit 'Prince Alexander' and Will replied: "Funny you should say that... It's a good name."

He also got the name Jerry thrown into the mix, when he told New Zealand High Commissioner Sir Jerry Mateparae: "And Jerry would like it to be Jerry.

"It's a strong name, I have to say,"

Kensington Palace announced the happy news on Twitter on Monday in a statement, which read: "Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 1101hrs. The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.

"The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news."

The little LAD was born at the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital in London, shortly after it was announced she had gone into labour.

Royal-family-fans had been camping outside the hospital for days, hoping to catch the first glimpse of the baby.

Terry Hutt, 83, and John Loughrey, 63, arrived on April 9 to make sure they got a good spot. Terry told People: "I know the routine so we wanted to get here for the best view. We're excited, over the moon.

"I had a sense it was going to be today. We are going to celebrate later with fish and chips."

Kate had suffered with a severe form of morning sickness called hyperemesis gravidarium during her pregnancy, however she didn't take maternity leave until the end of March, with her last public engagement being a charity lunch for 'The Commonwealth Big Lunch' on 22 March.

As with tradition, a framed proclamation announcing the birth has been placed behind the gates at Buckingham Palace.

He is the sixth great-grandchild of the Queen.
