The coronavirus-prompted lockdown has meant we've had to get a bit more creative when it comes to those unfortunate folk whose birthdays have fallen over the last few weeks.

OK, I'm mainly talking about hosting drinking games over Zoom, rather than gathered in someone's living room, but now you have one more weapon to bolster your arsenal of anniversary ideas - you can send your mates a Colin the Caterpillar cake.

Clearly taking into account the disappointment that accompanies a birthday in these uncertain times, Marks & Spencer has given us the option to send out Colin the Caterpillar birthday cakes via online orders - complete with a balloon.

Obviously, you can still enjoy an online drinking game sesh with your pals (or alone, if that's your thing), but now the person celebrating their birthday can do it next to Colin's excited little face.

The special M&S gift bag (which you could even use in future so that people think you can afford to do your big shop there) comes complete with a cake, a balloon and a bag of Veggie Colin the Caterpillar jellies.

You can get all that for just £20 - which seems like a bit of a bargain really. Think of the joy on your mate's face when they realise their lockdown birthday will be made that tiny bit brighter.

Not only that, you can even add a gift message on your parcel for free - obviously you'll want to bask in the glory of being such a good pal - and delivery is less than £4 for both standard and next day/nominated day delivery.

Of course, with things being the way they are at the moment, you might want to note that deliveries for pretty much everything are taking a bit longer than usual, so bear that in mind when you're deciding when to order.

And if that's a bit out of your budget, or you know someone who prefers things a bit simpler, you could just get them a normal chocolate cake instead.

It will set you back £10 (plus delivery) and even comes with a packet of candles.

So there you go - an easy way for you to bring a bit of joy to your nearest and dearest's lockdown birthday.
