Plane passenger sparks backlash after adopting bizarre sleeping position on long-haul flight

Long-haul flights can quite literally be a pain. From the ear-piercing screams of nearby children to the person in front whacking you in the knees with their reclining seat. And, economy seats are definitely not that comfortable.

So, how far would you go for a pleasant flight?

One man's attempts to get some shut-eye during a recent journey has left TikTok viewers baffled.

Natalie Bright recorded her father catching some z's in a rather unusual sleeping position in a video, with the caption reading: "Flying economy for 15 hours? No worries."

The clip shows her dad having a kip on the floor between two rows of seats as she lounges across the seats above him.

"More room for everybody," she captioned the clip.

Natalie's viral video has racked up more than 11 million views and 500,000 likes since it was posted last month, but viewers are divided over her dad's sleeping arrangements.

One TikTok user wrote: "Smart but I'd lay a blanket down underneath. Thank you airport dad I will steal this idea."

Another person commented: "What???? This is so smart never thought of that."

"Only peak dads can make the floor of the plane look comfy," said a third.

And, as somebody who's done the same thing on a 24-hour coach ride to the French Alps, I can confirm, it's really not bad.

But, not all users were on board with him sleeping on the floor, with one commenting: “That’s actually wild... those carpets are not clean.”

Another person wrote: "Gurllll tell him to get uppp, it's just as bad as hospital floors."

And, a flight attendant even weighed in to warn users against following his lead.

"Cabin crew here... It's not allowed because if you were to have rapid decompression, the oxygen mask wouldn't reach you and also no seatbelt."

Elsewhere on TikTok, another flight-related debate was recently sparked after a woman accused the passenger behind her of 'pushing her seat' for the entire flight.

"The whole trip he pushed my seat. You've seen it. You know he did," she shouts in the clip.

Meanwhile, the other passenger seems annoyed that she'd chosen to recline her seat.

Flight etiquette is often the source of debate online.

The video soon spread like wildfire, with social media users chiming in on whether it's acceptable to recline your seat during a flight.

Many say that the woman had every right to put her seat back, with one person saying: "I mean, if she wasn't allowed to put her seat back then why was the seat adjustable?"

"They add the recline seat button for a reason. It actually cost the airline extra money to provide this feature, it's meant to be used," another added.

However, not everyone was in agreement.

“I do not recline because it undoubtedly intrudes on the other person's space," one person wrote. "Being on a plane primarily sucks, a little consideration goes a long way."
