Donald Trump slammed for posting 'beyond unhinged' image following death of Pope Francis

Even some of Trump's supporters say they 'can't defend this'

Another day, another slam of Donald Trump for doing something ‘unhinged’.

On this occasion, the US president has posted a pretty bizarre image following the death of Pope Francis.

The leader of the Catholic Church died on 21 April with Trump making up one of the many thousands of mourners in attendance at his funeral last week.

Although, while he was there, he was accused of showing ‘no respect’ thanks to his outfit and behaviour during the event. But some think he’s completely one-upped that with his latest move after he recently joked he’d quite ‘like to be pope’.

Trump went on to say he had ‘no preference’ but suggested that maybe an American cardinal would be goof for the role. However, he may have now taken that joke too far as he shared a ‘blasphemous’ photo.

Across his social media last night, Trump shared a seemingly AI-generated of him as pope.

Sat in a golden throne, he’s fully kitted out in the papal cream cassock with a golden cross around his neck and a mitre on his head. He’s got a pretty serious expression plastered on his face with that typical pope finger pose going on.

‘Incredibly disrespectful’ and ‘beyond unhinged’

In response to the pic, even some of his supporters said they ‘can’t defend this one’, while others did say it’s ‘hilarious’.

“Cannot believe this is real. I don’t expect any level of respect from Trump, but this is a new low,” one user slammed.

Another hit out: “If this was a joke posted by one of his third-party influencers, I'd laugh and say "’here they go again with the cult festival’.

“But given what he's showing he's willing to (try to do) in other areas, and that his own account posted it, we're at a point where we have to actually be concerned he might try to become Pope.”

A third quipped: “ANYTHING to get him out of his current job!”

And some said it’s a ‘totally cursed’ image as many agreed it’s ‘blasphemous and in very poor taste’.

With Trump obviously not actually in the running, the process to elect the new pope is set to begin on 7 May, with some 135 cardinals from across the world attending the secret conclave.

There’s no timescale to just how long the process will take but the last two (in 2005 and 2013) took just two days.
