PureGym has started suspending people for not putting their weights back

PureGym has started suspending people for not putting their weights back

People have praised PureGym's decision to implement strict measures on those who don't tidy up after themselves at the gym.

People have praised PureGym's decision to implement strict measures on those who don't tidy up after themselves at the gym.

Without trying to sound too much like a gym lad - or one of those self-professed 'gym rats' on Tinder - it is rather irritating when weights are left all over the place when you pop over to a mat, or when you pick up a bar, not realising it's already got about a gazillion kilograms on, rendering you fairly helpless and pretty much stuck underneath its weight.

It's a lesson most of us were taught by the age of three - tidy up after yourself - but unfortunately, even at the ripe of age of being an adult who can afford a gym membership, some people still haven't quite got the knack of it.

PureGym has since received widespread praise for threatening to suspend gym-goers who leave weights rolling all over the floor after finishing their set.

A TikToker and fitness fanatic named Rob Herbert Fit took to the social media platform to share a new sign he came across upon arriving at the gym for a sesh.

The sign reads: "Please put your weights away when you have finished.

"Failure to do this could result in your membership being suspended."

A gym goer spotted the sign in PureGym and posted it on TikTok.

The video then revealed the other side of the sign which claims a total of 'nine members' had been suspended in just one week for not putting apparatus back.

Adding his own comment to the video, Rob couldn't help but throw a bit of shade.

He wrote: "Gymetiquette costs nothing. Apparently people can't read.

"Don't skip your last exercise, put your weights away."

The other side of the sign revealed nine members had already been suspended that week for failing to put away their weights.

The post has amassed hundreds of thousands of views, with many fellow gym-goers having flocked to the video in appreciation of the new rule.

One said: "Amen to that wish it was in my gym."

"Should be in all gyms along with a wall of shame," Rob replied.

Another wrote: "A sign that should not be needed because of the arrogant, lazy few."

"And benches too," a third suggested.

One user claimed her husband ended up severely injured as a result of a fellow gym-goer not tidying up after themselves.

"Someone left theirs out behind my husband mid set and it rolled behind him he didn’t see it, fell with 100kg on his shoulders and broke his spine - glad to see people get in trouble for it. It’s pure laziness!" they said.

Another added: "Would be nice if they made sure people wiped down the kit after use too."

A final resolved: "This should be in every gym!!!"

According to their website, there are two rules stated when it comes to using the weights: " Can you ensure that you put your weights back in their original place when finished, failure to do so may result in your membership being terminated.

"Please do not misuse the weights by dropping them on the floor, failure to do so may result in your membership being terminated."

A spokesperson for PureGym told LADbible: "We're committed to providing a safe and welcoming place for everybody to workout. We take pride in keeping our gyms clean and tidy, invest in providing high-quality equipment and carefully plan the layout to ensure access and mobility around the gym for all of our members. We want to keep our members safe, avoid any accidents and keep our equipment in good condition, which is why we ask members at all of our gyms to clean down and put away their equipment after they’ve finished using it. It's also the right thing to do out of respect for fellow gym-goers!

"We’ll speak to any member who leaves their weights out to ensure that they are aware of the rules and only after this would we consider suspending a membership. The good news is that out of the millions of gym visits we see every year this is relatively rare as the vast majority of our members enjoy a tidy gym and are very happy to oblige."
