People Are Listing The Films That Are So Traumatic You Can Only Watch Them Once

A Reddit thread was filled with suggestions after one user said 'Grave of The Fireflies' was one of the most traumatic films.

There are loads of reasons why someone might find a movie to be terrifying, horrifying, spine-tingling or downright scary.

If you're into these types of movies then you will love a recent Reddit thread that listed all the titles that have left people so traumatised that they've never watched them again.

A user suggested Grave of the Fireflies was the movie that came to mind when they were thinking about traumatic storylines and that sparked a wave of other grisly suggestions.

The user said: "There's a anime film called Grave of The Fireflies. It's about two Japanese siblings living during WW2. It's a beautiful film, breathtaking. But by the end you are so emotionally drained you can't watch it again.”

The film they're talking about was made in 1988 and was directed by Isao Takahate.

The Studio Ghibli movie is set in Kobe, Japan, and follows the siblings as they try to survive the final months of World War Two.

The film received critical praise worldwide and often regarded as ‘one of the best war films’.

The Reddit user also added other emotionally taxing films, saying: “Another one is Passion of The Christ for obvious reasons. Schindler's List is probably another one, but I haven't seen it. It's amazing how some films are so beautiful yet the thought of watching them again just sends a pit to your stomach.”

The comment lit up with many sharing equally traumatic films you can only watch once.

One user wrote: “Definitely the roughest of Lars von Trier's Golden Heart trilogy. Breaking the Waves was a tough watch too. I'm just glad he used some restraint in that one & didn't fully show the most horrific parts. Otherwise it probably would have surpassed Dancer in the Dark in the trauma department.”

Another user wrote: “Suspiria, one of the most unique horror movies I've watched, but man was it weird af.”

Amazon Studios

While another user wrote: “Hotel Rwanda.”

One Reddit user also recounted a hilarious story about how they watched The Exorcist while newly dating someone.

They said: “I once rented this video with a girl on our first date. That.. wasn't very successful night. We tried again and casually went to movies to see The Exorcist (remastered) without knowing what to expect.

"That was an awful date as well. But the red flag came on a third date in a park when she told me that seagulls are her spirit animals.”

Yikes, that date might be even more traumatic than any of these movies...

So, if you’re looking to stay in and raise your heart rate, take a cue from any one of these terrifying suggestions.
