Sha'Carri Richardson won't be able to run the 100m in the Olympics next month after testing positive for cannabis.

The 21-year-old athlete has been handed a one-month ban after accepting a counselling course, which reduced it from three months.

This means she could still run the relay in the Olympics, but will not be able to compete in the 100m.

The United States Anti-Doping Agency said on Friday morning that she had 'accepted a one-month suspension' beginning on 28 June, 2021.

It did not confirm whether she could run the relay.

Speaking on Today, Richardson, who recently lost her mother, said: "I was definitely triggered and blinded by emotions, blinded by badness, and hurting, and hiding hurt.

"I know I can't hide myself, so in some type of way, I was trying to hide my pain."
