Home player Arthur Gea faced Karen Khachanov during his French Open debut on Sunday (24 May).

But their match was overshadowed by the Frenchman’s desperate request to go to the toilet during play.

In the now viral footage, the 21-year-old could be heard telling the umpire he would ‘sh*t on the court’ as his request was denied.

When Gea made his move, he was trailing Khachanov 4-2, with the Russian tennis player ultimately winning 6-3, 7-6 (3), 6-0.

The wild-card entry made the desperate plea as he said: “I need to go the bathroom. I can’t move anymore.”

The umpire had refused and told him ‘after the game’, but stressing the urgency of his situation, Gea had added: “I’m going to s**t on the f**king court.”

Unfortunately for Gea and his stomach, bathroom breaks are only typically allowed between sets.

A pair of officials ended up appearing on Court Suzanne-Lenglen, asking if it was ‘for a medical reason’ that there was a timeout as the umpire refused.

“Yeah, I’m sick,” the player told them, while it was confirmed that the officials did not know anything about this prior.

And as a trainer appeared to add that Gea ‘has some stomach problems’, the player didn’t hold back as he bluntly said: “I have diarrhoea.”

He then spoke with the team in French while Khachanov protested the pause in play.

“If it’s urgent he can do that,” a member of the officials said and Gea ended up having to play another set.

The game then continued. But as soon as the ensuing point was played, he made a pretty hasty exit off the court, running toward the locker rooms.

After the match, Gea told press that the umpire had allowed him the break because of ‘medical circumstances’.

He was given some medicine in a bid to settle some stomach pain during this time.

Gea explained that he had not felt ill the night before the match but had started to feel unwell when he woke up in the morning.

And not only did he suffer from a funny tummy, he suffered an early exit from the French Open, losing to Khachanov in straight sets.

Speaking to Tennis Channel, Khachanov said: “I think it’s more a question about the rules — when you can leave the court and when you can’t. But as a human being, I understand him, because sometimes you can have that desperate need. What can you do? You just accept it and wait for him. Honestly, I felt bad for the guy."
