Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has passed away at the age of 54, the club has said in a statement.

The forward scored 148 league goals throughout his career, having played for the likes of Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, Everton and West Bromwich Albion.

Having come through the academy at Arsenal, Campbell won the Football League First Division with the club in the 1990/91 season and the FA Cup in the 1992/93 season.

"We are devastated to learn that our former striker Kevin Campbell has died after a short illness," Arsenal said in a statement.

"Kevin was adored by everyone at the club.

"All of us are thinking of his friends and family at this difficult time.

"Rest in peace, Kevin."

Everton has also paid a touching tribute to the striker, writing: "Everyone at Everton is deeply saddened by the death of our former striker Kevin Campbell at the age of just 54.

"Not just a true Goodison Park hero and icon of the English game, but an incredible person as well - as anyone who ever met him will know. RIP, Super Kev."

The Premier League added: "We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Kevin Campbell, the former Arsenal, Nott'm Forest, Everton and West Brom striker

"Our thoughts and condolences are with Kevin's family, friends and those associated with the clubs he played for."

Fellow Everton legend Tony Cotte called Campbell 'the nicest man you could ever meet'.

He said: "I am so devastated to hear the news of the passing of Kevin Campbell.

TNT Sports commentator Darren Fletcher added: "Absolutely devastated that Kevin Campbell has passed away.

"He’s been my mate since he joined Forest in 1995 and my colleague on the radio in more recent times.

"They called him ‘Super Kev’ - cos he was a beloved player. But he was Super Kev because he was a super bloke. RIP mate."

In what has become a sad day footballer, we learnt earlier today of the passing of Millwall goalkeeper Matija Sarkic who has tragically died at the age of 26.

The club said in a statement: "Millwall Football Club is completely devastated to announce that Matija Sarkic has passed away at the age of 26.

"Sarkic, The Lions' number one goalkeeper, made 33 appearances for the club since joining from Wolverhampton Wanderers in August 2023.

"A Montenegro international, Matija proudly represented his country on numerous occasions.

"Everyone at the club sends their love and condolences to Matija's family and friends at this immensely sad time.
