Punishments Man City could face after guilty verdict and who could theoretically benefit
Manchester City could be set to face a string of brutal punishments after reportedly being found guilty on over 100 charges.
The club was facing 115 charges relating to financial breaches, with 114 of them having now come back as proven, according to reports.
From a points deduction to expulsion, a range of punishments could be handed to Enzo Maresca's side, though no sanctions have been formally agreed upon yet.
A panel will be asked to decide upon the repercussions, as stated in the Premier League handbook, where a list of potential punishments are listed.

With the Citizens being charged with breaking rules across a nine-year period, beginning in 2009 and ending in 2018, it is currently unclear whether the Premier League will refer to the latest edition of the rulebook, or the version relevant to when the rule breaks took place.
Man City have always denied all allegations against them and it is expected that the team will appeal the charges.
What punishments could Man City face?
- A reprimand
- A fine of an unlimited amount
- Suspension from playing Premier League matches
- Deduction of points already scored or to be scored
- A recommendation that one or more league matches be replayed
- A recommendation that the club be expelled from the Premier League
- Payment of compensation of an unlimited amount
- Cancellation or refusal of a player registration made in breach of the rules
They could face a combination of any of these repercussions, as per the 22/23 Premier League handbook.
Who could benefit?
Theoretically, other teams could benefit from Man City facing harsh punishments like having to vacate titles.
City enjoyed great success in the aforementioned period between 2009 and 2018, winning the Premier League three times, the FA Cup and the League Cup three times, with more success following both domestically and in Europe over the past eight years.
If City were to be stripped of the three Premier League titles they won during this period, the three beneficiaries would be Manchester United, who finished second in 2011/12, Liverpool, who finished second in 2013/14 and Manchester United after finishing second again in 2017/18.
However, there's no indication that should Man City be stripped of titles, that they will be awarded elsewhere.
Addressing the reported charges on Friday (September 25), a Man City spokesperson The Athletic: “The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality. As such Manchester City FC’s position remains consistent with the club’s statement of February 2023.
“The club has diligently respected due process for eight years on the basis the Premier League board and executive would behave as an independent, impartial and fair minded regulator, free from partisan influence.”

- Failure to provide accurate and up-to-date financial information from 2009/10 to and including 2017/18 - 54 alleged breaches
- Failure to co-operate with Premier League investigations from December 2018 - present [February 2023] - 35 alleged breaches
- Failure to provide accurate financial reports for player and manager compensation from 2009/10 to and including 2017/18 - 14 alleged breaches
- Breaches of Premier League profitability and sustainability regulations from 2015/16 to and including 2017/18 - 7 alleged breaches
- Failure to comply with UEFA's regulations, including UEFA's Club Licensing and Financial Fair Play Regulations - 5 alleged breaches
