Oscar Pistorius’ new life after spending eight years in prison for killing girlfriend
It's been around 12 years since Oscar Pistorius was found guilty of killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, just two years after he earned global acclaim at the London Olympics.
Pistorius was an athlete who was dominating the world of Paralympic running, claiming six gold, two silver and one bronze across his Paralympic career.
Such was his dominance in the Paralympics that the South African, nicknamed Blade Runner for his prosthetic legs, even competed in the Olympics, becoming the first ever amputee to do so.
He was widely regarded as the best in the world but it all came crashing down for him when he was found guilty of culpable homicide in the death of his partner Steenkamp, who worked as a model and paralegal.

Pistorius was initially given a five-year sentence but that was later upgraded to 13 years, and it wasn't until January 2024 that he would be released on parole following eight and a half years incarcerated.
Given the huge media attention that his trial attracted, which was unsurprising considering his status as a global superstar at the time, there was also naturally a lot of interest in his life after he was released.
It seems as if the 39-year-old has retreated to the city of Pretoria in South Africa, where he lives a quiet and secluded life, although that may be disrupted, as the Daily Mail suggest that Netflix are keen to film a true crime series.
His hair has greyed during his time behind bars and he's also grown a beard, meaning he's looking very different to how most athletics fans will remember him.
He also keeps his prosthetic legs hidden as another way of obscuring his identity, with reports also suggesting that he maintains his active lifestyle, playing padel, cycling and even competing in Ironman competitions.
One Pretorian resident said: "You sometimes see him in the local bike shop, drinking a cappuccino, talking to the staff about cycling."
He is continuing to live with his uncle, one of the richest men in the region, who he stayed with from the age of 15 following the death of his mother.
However, he has little contact with his father Henke, as the two reportedly developed a 'rift' after he refused to accept his son's guilty verdict in the courtroom.
Henke said: "Oscar will one day tell his story. He is at the moment very sad and very sorry about what happened. What happened is not what came out of the court. I am one of hundreds of people that will say that this case will stand as a very negative example of jurisdiction of justice in South Africa.
"I'm already in trouble with Oscar as I've said too much. He was forced to just accept that he is guilty and he's a murderer, which is such a pathetic insult to law in South Africa. He's been hurt and broken and that's what he believes now... that he is guilty."
Meanwhile, a source told South African publication Netwerk 24 last year: "He is slowly trying to reintegrate into society, but that is being done through families that his family have been close to for decades and is slowly slowly.
"The word on the street for three months now is that he is dating again."
