As the current England team headed out to the US for the World Cup, plenty of former players were also out there to do the coverage.

While Wayne Rooney was sharing his take on the Half Time Show on the BBC, Peter Crouch was working with FOX Sports and doing special episodes of his podcast.

But during a recent episode of his regular The Therapy Crouch podcast with wife Abbey Clancy, they reflected on their journey to US.

And the model revealed one of their daughters ended up ‘nearly getting arrested’ when they landed in New York.

The couple, who have been married since 2011, share four children together; Sophia Ruby, 15, Liberty Rose, 10, Johnny, seven, and Jack, six.

And it was the eldest who apparently made an inappropriate joke when they reached the US immigration officers.

“[We] landed. Then Sophia nearly got arrested at the airport. We’re landing in New York, it’s different to the UK, it’s kind of security heavy. Strict. Those immigration officers are not fun. You cannot crack a joke with them,” Clancy recalled.

“Because Sophia’s renewed her passport since she last visited the US, she had to do her fingerprints. And then Sophia’s like, ‘Why do I have to do fingerprints?’. And then Sophia’s like, ‘Oh yeah, is that in case there’s like fingerprints on the gun?’”

This of course raised eyebrows among immigration who don’t exactly take things likely.

“And they’re like, ‘Sorry, sorry, miss. What did you say? What fingerprints on the gun?’ And then she’s like, ‘No, I mean like there’s guns here and you could have like my fingerprint’,” Clancy continued.

Apparently, this led to a staff member responding: “What? Your fingerprints are on a gun?”

And the mum tried to explain: “No, my daughter’s not saying her fingerprints are on a gun, she’s saying, ‘Is this how you get catch criminals if their fingerprints are on a gun?’.”

Luckily of course, the teen managed to carry on into the US without getting arrested but by the time they'd got through and picked up the bags, they had no lift waiting.

"So then we got our bags and the driver left us because we were taking too long and I just burst into tears," Clancy added.

The couple previously spoke about a parenting rule they introduced with the kids over Christmas 2024.

"We said to them iPads and phones are gone and I feel we've stuck to that," Crouch explained on a The Therapy Crouch episode.

"We made a conscious effort amongst ourselves to cut them out and they've properly cut them out."

The pair said they saw some positive changes from the tech ban, with a huge impact on attitude.

Clancy and Crouch first met two decades ago before getting married in 2011. They spoke in another podcast episode about doing their own things separately as the football legend spoke about his love of golf.

"I can't listen to this anymore. This golf stuff. We live separate lives now. He goes to golf and I go horse riding, and then we meet at the end," Clancy said.

As Crouch added: "I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Like, not every day, because we need to do stuff together as well. But I think some part of the week, I think that's a totally healthy relationship."

And his wife said: "It is, because I've never been happier."
