Apple announces cost of iPhone 15

The iPhone 15 was unveiled today

Apple has revealed the price of its eagerly anticipated iPhone 15 models.

Apple boss Tim Cook took to the stage today (12 September) to explain what we can all expect from the iPhone 15 series as the new models were finally unveiled.

The tech giant has introduced a raft of new features - including a larger screen display and tougher screens, ideal if you’re the clumsy sort who is always rocking around with a smashed-up iPhone.

Meanwhile, the iPhone's camera has had a makeover, too - with the photo app now able to automatically detect if someone is in the picture you're trying to take and switch over to portrait mode.

The new models will have a USB-C charging cable point.

Not only that, but users will be able to filter out background noise and have the microphone just focus on what you're saying.

Clever, eh?

But perhaps one of the more exciting announcements coming out today is a new feature Apple fans have been waiting a while for.

The new models will be available later this month.

Apple's newest models will have a USB-C charging cable point.

At the moment, iPhones rely on a proprietary lightning cable, with most other devices - including others made by Apple - opting for a USB-C cable instead.

Apple had been widely rumoured to be switching out its old charging system in favour of USB-C after a new EU law declared that all portable devices need to be compatible with a universal charger by December 2024.

The European Parliament announced it would enforce the use of USB Type-C charging ports for 'all mobile phones, tablets and cameras in the EU' in a bid to reduce 'hassle for consumers,' as well as 'curbing e-waste'.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal back in October, senior vice president of software engineering Craig Federighi and senior vice president of worldwide marketing Greg Joswiak confirmed that Apple will have to comply with the new regulations.

Joswiak said: "Governments get to do what they do and obviously we'll have to comply.

"We have no choice."

It will be the first time the iPhone charging systems have been changed in 11 years.

Apple has already changed its MacBooks and iPads to USB-C charging and now its iPhone 15 will follow suit.

The prices for the iPhone start at $799 and the iPhone 15 Plus at $899, which is the same as last year in the States.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pro will set you back $999, with the iPhone 15 Pro Max costing $1,199.

Apple’s 2023 range of iPhones will go on sale on 22 September.
