Galway's famous for many things - a bustling arts scene, landmarks like the Spanish Arch or the Salthill promenade, stunning coastal views as part of the famed Wild Atlantic Way. And now it can add 'home to Europe's Best Takeaway Pizza' to its list of monikers.

The hugely popular pizza restaurant Dough Bros was recently named as the best takeaway pizza joint in all of Europe by the Italian website 50 Top Pizza. When the Italians themselves are complimenting your pizza skills, you know you're doing something right.

Naturally enough, the restaurant was also named the best pizzeria in Ireland. We guess once you've conquered the continent of Europe, Ireland should be a breeze?

"During these past eighteen months that have been so challenging for the worldwide restaurant sector, two brothers from Galway have transformed the roadblock of the health crisis into an opportunity," the website wrote. "They never lost courage, but instead perfected their delivery service and even created a kit to make pizza at home."

"They have done a great job.Besides the doughs, their selection of raw materials is always at the highest of standards. Even the kits will produce one of the best pizzas in the country."

Established in 2013 by brother Eugene and Ronan Greaney, Dough Bros has been operating from its Middle Street location since 2016. Speaking to GalwayDaily.com on their success in being named best in Europe, Eugene commented: "For us it's never about being the biggest, we have always focused on being the best we can be and making a real impact in Ireland and putting Irish Pizza on the map."

"Last year when the restaurant closed, we had to switch to a takeaway and developed the kits also," he continued. "When we opened as a takeaway, we did not want to do it for the sake of it, we aimed to provide the same level of standards and qualities we applied to the restaurant."

"It was challenging and hard work so to get this accolade as well as the awards above was the icing on the cake."

"We closed up for the night and watched the awards live with our staff. It was a night we won't forget," the brother elaborated.

In spite of a challenging year, the future is certainly looking bright for these brothers and their trusted team. "Rather than rely on the restaurant model we hope to add a factory for our kits and a takeaway business so people can enjoy the Dough Bros pizza in different ways which is really exciting," Ronan mentioned.

If waiting on your digital Covid certificate means Italy is looking out of reach for the moment, perhaps a staycation to Galway might be the next best thing?
