Donald Trump claims live on British TV he 'saved the UK' from nuclear destruction

The President of the United States Donald Trump declared he prevented a nuclear attack against the United Kingdom despite, he insists, Britain’s refusal to “help” in his ongoing war against Iran.

Talking with GB News Trump sought to justify his decision to join with Israel in the offensive against the Gulf State, which has continued into its sixth month - with up to 10,000 people estimated to have died so far according to the UN.

He said: “I’m saving your country from the threat too. Because if Iran had a nuclear weapon, they’re more likely to use it in Europe, where they do have missile capability, than they are in America, where they don’t.

“I’m saving your country from a problem because they would use it.”

Iran and the US have been in deadlock over the fate of the Strait of Hormuz, which handled around 20 million barrels of oil per day, equal to 20% of the world’s petrol consumption, before hostilities began. The move to strike Iran caused a spike in petrol prices and disrupted economies across the world.

During his interview with GB News anchor Bev Turner, Trump was highly critical of Britain’s former Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, for failing to provide access to UK airbases in the initial attack last February.

The President hinted earlier this week that he was prepared to withdraw American support for Britain’s sovereignty over the Falkland Islands, which have long been claimed by Argentina - with the dispute reaching a bloody climax in 1982 when the two nations went to war over the territory.

Pointing to the critical position of The Gulf in global oil transportation, Trump warned: “Don’t forget, you get a big percentage of your oil from the Strait of Hormuz, and you weren’t there to help me.”

He then went on to lecture the UK on the “disaster” of its immigration and energy policies: “If you don’t stop people pouring into your country from all over the world, you’re not going to have a country left.”

In addition to heaping scorn on Britain’s position on Iran, Trump also took the opportunity of appearing on UK television to lash out at London Mayor Sadiq Khan. He said, “I mean, if you go through London, London’s a much different place. You have a terrible mayor. He’s a nasty guy, nasty person. He’s a very bad mayor.”

He described the UK capital as being a city riven by “high crime” that had declined radically in recent years: “London’s a very different place than if you took somebody from 15 or 20 years ago and brought them through London, they wouldn’t know what happened. Such a different place.”

He continued: “You have areas in Paris and London where the police don’t want to even go in them; there’s no law and order. They’re afraid to go in them. Either they’re afraid, or they just don’t, you know, they don’t want to lose their life.”

But a source close to the London mayor told The Metro: “Sadiq is still living rent-free in Trump’s head. The guy is obsessed with him.

“Crime rates are down all across London, with violent crime lower than in every major US city. London is a diverse, multi-cultural and thriving global city – the best city in the world. Trump just can’t comprehend our success.”
