EastEnders will go off air next month, with filming resuming at the end of June.

Work on the soap has stalled over the past couple of months following the UK government placing the country into lockdown back in March.

As a result, the BBC has only been showing two episodes a week to stretch out what they already had finished.

However, according to BBC's director of content, Charlotte Moore, plans are underway to restart shooting at the end of June, with social distancing guidance followed at all times.

Writing in The Telegraph, she said: "We're also exploring ways to re-start filming on more dramas and other major BBC shows as soon as possible.

"We've been looking very carefully at how we can safely put some of our shows back into production, and I'm pleased to announce that we plan to begin filming again on both EastEnders and Top Gear by the end of next month."

Adding: "Cast members will do their own hair and make-up. Social distancing measures will be in place."

But with such a prolonged gap in between shooting, it means there will be an inevitable break, meaning the show will be off the air completely for a few weeks.

Not all shows have been delayed. Earlier this week, Disney confirmed that there will be no delay to season two of Star Wars TV series The Mandalorian as a result of the coronavirus, confirming it is all on track for its October release.

Disney CEO Robert Chapek told fans that the timing of many productions remains unaffected by the pandemic.

Although other productions have been delayed across the film industry, with filming stopped almost across the board, Chapek explained why certain shows remain unaffected.

The pandemic will not delay work on The Mandalorian season two.

In an interview with CNBC, he said: "We have a certain amount of inventory, particularly for Disney+, that is still fuelling the machine.

"It's important to know though that pre-production - sort of the development phase - can still happen during these times of lockdown, if you will.

"And post-production can still happen - so it's only films that are mid-stream, right in the middle of production. Take for example The Mandalorian.

"The Mandalorian was shot before Covid really hit, and so we've been in post-production and there'll be no delay on Mandalorian.

"Same thing with Black Widow which is coming out in November."
