Good News: We're In For A Scorching Bank Holiday Next Week

The weather this year has been bizarre. We were blanketed in snow, battered by the Beast from the East (and its umpteen subsequent sequels) and then blessed by one of the best bank holidays in years.

Now, weather forecasters are predicting that the heatwave is going to continue - into the next bank holiday weekend.

So rejoice, barbequers, park drinkers and beer garden regulars, because the number-crunching weather boffins are telling us that the glorious weather is set to continue well into June.

The Weather Channel said: "From this weekend and throughout next week, temperatures will be above normal across much of Europe. This is due to an area of high pressure becoming dominant. Forecast models indicate that above normal temperatures are likely to persist for the rest of May."

We think that's weatherman speak for 'get a big bag of cans and head to the park'.

Temperatures are set to soar over the next two weeks, peaking at 23 degrees for the bank holiday weekend.

With the hot weather will come isolated thunder showers, but they will be brief and the sun will return soon afterwards.

"There will be a good deal of dry weather with sunny spells for the Bank Holiday weekend with further thundery showers possible across central and southern parts, remaining warmest in the west and cooler along eastern coasts," said a forecaster from the Met Office.

"The end of May and beginning of June will most likely remain overall drier and warmer than average, with an increasing chance of more unsettled conditions developing towards the end of the period."

With the World Cup on the horizon, we can all look forward to extended periods of beer garden-based football watching, with only the stench of predictable, inevitable disappointment to sour the mood.

"If you like your spring weather dry and sunny you will like the 10-day trend," said Aidan McGivern of the Met Office.

The indication is that high pressure will remain close to the British Isles over the next 10 days leading to a lot of dry and sunny weather.

McGivern continued: "Friday is another day of virtually unbroken sunshine, blue skies and warm temperatures and that is how we begin Saturday with high pressure slap bang over the British Isles.

"We expect lots of sunshine so if you are getting married on Saturday afternoon or heading to a football match it is going to be a very pleasant afternoon."
