Huge Spiderweb Found In Missouri Forest

Huge Spiderweb Found In Missouri Forest

Absolutely not

Spider webs have been found deep in the forests of Missouri in the US and people online are worried they're big enough to 'catch' humans.

A huge one was found by the Missouri Department of Conservation on a trail near Springfield, with the organisation sharing a snap of the horrifying find on its Facebook page.

Writing on social media, the post said: "DC Media Specialist Francis Skalicky snapped a pic of the orbweaver's spiderweb while out on a trail in Springfield recently.

"A number of species of orb weavers can be found in Missouri. Their webs are most noticeable in late summer in fall, when webs and adults reach their largest size."

Weirdly though, the spiders themselves aren't the massive beasts you would expect them to be.

According to the conservation department's website, the creatures usually only have a body that is about half an inch long - not including the legs. Still not as small as you'd expect given the size of those horrendous looking webs.

The website reads: "Neoscona species have a slightly triangular-ovate abdomen with a pattern resembling an upside-down spruce tree. On each side of this midline may be black, brown, and greenish-brown markings.

"The legs usually are grey with brown rings. The carapace may be grey with brown markings."

And just in time for Halloween - or Spooky Season, as certain types like to call it - the depths of the Missouri forests aren't the only place you're gonna find spider-related horrors.

It's that time of year again where the horrible little fellas seem to live rent free in both our heads and our homes - but there is apparently a cure, that doesn't involve harsh chemicals or coming face to face with them.

According to one mum, peppermint oil might be the answer - she went so far as to say it's the 'best solution ever'. Bold words.

All you need to do is put a couple of drops into a diffuser and off you go.

Sharing her 'must try' with the Facebook group Family Lockdown Tips & Ideas, the woman wrote: "Can I just say if you haven't already tried this then you really must now."

In her original post, she asked: "Do you hate spiders coming into your house?

"I have the best solution ever!! £10.75 for a 30ml bottle of peppermint oil from Holland & Barrett, couple of drop in my diffuser and no more spiders."

She did also add a quick warning for people to use with caution around children and animals, keeping the diffusers out of reach.

Then she concluded: "Thank me later."
