A shopper was gobsmacked when he realised that Tesco had substituted an iPhone SE for the bag of apples he ordered.
Nick James collected his shopping from his local Tesco Extra in Twickenham, as per usual, but staff told him he could expect to find a 'surprise' among his groceries.
A big thanks this week to @Tesco & @tescomobile. On Wednesday evening we went to pick up our click and collect order and had a little surprise in there - an Apple iPhone SE. Apparently we ordered apples and randomly got an apple iphone! Made my sons week! #tesco #substitute pic.twitter.com/Mo8rZoAUwD

Speaking to The Mirror, 50-year-old Nick said: "I was half expecting the surprise to be an Easter egg or something - I was a little bit shocked to say the least."
Yes, this was no apple-based mix-up by the supermarket giant - it was part of a 'super substitutes' promotion, which runs until Sunday (18 April).
Many of us have been left disappointed by unwanted substitutions in our order, so Tesco Mobile has flipped the paradigm on its head, offering up top tech in place of regular inexpensive items, which sound a bit like said tech.
The complete list of super subs is as follows:
- Freshly baked bread rolls for a Motorola E7
- Apples for an Apple iPhone SE
- Galaxy Milk Chocolate Bar for a Samsung Galaxy S21 5G
- Tesco laundry tablets for a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7
- Pampers Active Fit Nappies for a Samsung Galaxy Fit 2 Black
- Gnocchi for a Nokia 3.4
- Frozen cod for Apple Airpods
- Galaxy chocolate drink for a Samsung Galaxy Watch 3
- Mini Cheddars for an Apple iPhone 12 Mini
- Cotton Buds for Samsung Galaxy Buds Live
To be in with a chance of winning like Nick, you have to order one of the above items via Click+Collect, with the 80 winners chosen in a random draw.

The full list of participating stores is as follows:
- Glasgow Silverburn Extra, 751 Barrhead Road, Glasgow
- Twickenham Extra, Mogden Lane, Isleworth
- Stretford Extra, Chester Road, Old Trafford, Stretford, Manchester
- Swansea Cadle Extra, Pontardulais Road, Cadle, Fforest-fach, Swansea
- Portsmouth Extra, Clement Attlee Way, Cosham, Portsmouth
- Dudley Extra, Town Gate Retail Park, Birmingham Road, Dudley
So what you waiting for? Head online and get ordering a s***load of Mini Cheddars from your nearest Tesco Extra.
