A terrified mum woke up in the night to see a burglar stood before her, before he apologised, saying he had got the wrong house.

Sophia-Louise Crawford, 26, was woken up at 5am in the home she shares with her two children and husband, in Dunfermline, Scotland.

She looked the burglar in the eyes, before he blurted out 'sorry wrong house', then ran off.

Sophia's husband Kieran, 29, usually works away, but thankfully he was in the house at the time, with their two kids, aged two and four.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Sophia said: "My husband is in the army so it's quite lucky he was home as he's away a lot.

"I sleep on the side of the bed closest to the door and I just woke up. The guy was standing there looking at me.

"I said 'hello' as I was quite confused. Straight away I realised I didn't know him and shouted 'what the hell' and my husband woke up."

Sophia's screams woke Kieran up, who got out of bed and chased the intruder downstairs while his wife went to make sure their children were OK.

Sophia continued: "At first I just thought am I dreaming? But then our eyes locked and I looked at his face, he looked frightened.

"I thought 'oh my god the kids' and then he said 'oh sorry, wrong house'.

"I thought maybe someone was drunk and came into the house by accident.

"I just couldn't believe it. I thought maybe it was a mistake but I was totally in shock."

The children's room was ransacked, as was the downstairs of the house, with every room raided.

The burglar took the kids' Xbox and iPad, along with other items. It's believed an accomplice helped him to remove the goods before he went into the bedroom.

Although all the doors were locked, Kieran believes they entered the house using a broken broom handle that he found in the kitchen.

The whole family has been left shocked by the incident, with police hoping to hunt down those responsible.

Sophia said: "My wee boy he's so upset as he had his iPad stolen. He's only four so he's quite shaken up."

Chief Inspector Michael Williamson said: "Officers are continuing with enquiries after break-ins to properties in Willowbank Brae in Dunfermline on Friday, 19 March.

"I would like to take this opportunity to remind homeowners of the importance of home security and I would ask that anyone who has any information regarding these crimes to contact 101, quoting 0393 of 19 March."

The robber is described as in his twenties or early thirties with dark hair and around 5ft 10.
