Three mums were so disgusted when they saw footage showing their sons destroying a miniature village that they forced them to go back and help repair the damage.

The boys, who are around 13 or 14, were caught on CCTV smashing up the Southsea Model Village in Hampshire last weekend.

Images from the CCTV were shared online in an attempt to track down the vandals and eventually came to the attention of the boys' families.

After realising what their sons had been up to, the mums forced the teens to apologise and carry out some voluntary work to make up for what they had done.

Owner Mark Wilson said: "We had three of the young lads came down to do some voluntary work and the police have spoken to them.

"They were a group of young lads - 13 or 14 years old - who broke in the second time.

"Their mums brought them down during the week.

"They were so embarrassed about what had happened. They said they opened Facebook and saw their sons' pictures plastered all over it from the break-in.

"They were mortified that they had to bring their sons down."

The teens told Mark they had trespassed because they were 'bored', but he had a solution for their boredom and quickly set them to work.

Mark added: "They have been sweeping up the paths and carrying out some basic labouring tasks.

"The police also attended the village to speak to the teenagers."

The vandalism carried out by the trio of teens came just days after a similar wrecking spree, which Mark says cost the business more than £500 ($700) in broken figurines and £1,200 ($1,700) in destroyed model railway tracks.

Several people have now come forward with information about this group and he added: "They're the ones we really want to get."

The local community have also stepped up, setting up a GoFundMe which has received more than £8,500 ($12,000) in donations.

The model village now has 10 new 4K CCTV cameras with automatic tracking to help prevent any further incidents.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said both instances of damage are being investigated and extra patrols are currently taking place in the area.
