When you’re at the circus, you’re of course expecting a bit of fun, maybe a bit of danger and plenty of wowing tricks.

But you’re not expecting to see something go wrong. And unfortunately, a circus audience were left horrified as a performer fell from an attraction dubbed the ‘Wheel of Faith’.

The Blackpool Tower Circus was giving its usual wowing performance last night (27 April) when an accident occurred.

A circus performer was performing on the famous contraption when bosses say he had a ‘minor fall’.

Audiences were evacuated after they watched on in horror as the acrobat tumbled to the ground, writing on X that they ‘fell several feet’.

While it has been widely reported that this happened on a ‘Wheel of Death’, the section of the Blackpool Tower Circus’ show is actually called the ‘Wheel of Faith’.

A spokesperson for the venue told LADbible this morning: “We can confirm that a member of the Blackpool Tower Circus team had a minor fall whilst performing [a rehearsed manoeuvre].

“Our medical team responded quickly with our well-established emergency procedures and supported the performer until the Emergency Services arrived.

“We are pleased to confirm the performer is recovering well and being treated for a minor injury to his wrist.”

Blackpool Tower Circus added that the ‘safety and well-being’ of its performers ‘is of the highest importance’. The venue has ‘rigorous safety protocols’ in place and the performer who fell was doing a ‘rehearsed move under planned conditions’.

The spokesperson added: “Our safety and First Aid teams are highly trained and responded quickly and well to the incident. In response to the incident, as a precautionary measure, all guests were kindly asked to exit the venue to allow Emergency Services to promptly address the situation."

North West Ambulance Service reportedly took the performer to hospital where they are being treated.

Guests who were watching the show when the shocking accident took place have been provided with complimentary tickets for a future performance as ‘a token of appreciation for their understanding and cooperation during this unexpected interruption’.

A review of the Wheel of Faith act is taking place as standard safety procedures while performances at Blackpool Tower Circus are set to open as usual today.

The spokesperson for the venue added: “We’d like to thank North West Ambulance for their quick response and support.”

Users on X praised the staff for their ‘amazing response’ as they called it a ‘serious accident’.
