Three people have been found dead at a Dorset care home and a further four taken to hospital, police have said.

The remaining residents of the Gainsborough Care Home in Ulwell Road in Swanage have been evacuated, with Dorset Police saying the deaths were unexplained.

PA reports a Dorset Council councillor told them that 'this could be attributable to carbon monoxide but it has not been proven'.

Police said: "The deaths are currently being treated as unexplained and an investigation has been launched

"There remains a significant multi-agency presence in place at the address and a cordon remains in place as we work with partners to carry out further enquiries.

"At this time there is nothing to indicate any risk to the wider public.

"We understand this incident will have a significant impact on the Swanage community and our thoughts are very much with the families of those who have sadly died at this extremely difficult time."

The South Western Ambulance Service was called to the care home at 5.20am, with Dorset Police being called at 7.15am this morning (23 October).

Southern Gas Network has been called to the care home.

LADbible have contacted Dorset Police for further comment.
