A detective who has worked tirelessly on the Madeleine McCann case has made damning claim about the new police search for the British toddler.
A fresh search for the three-year-old is set to begin today (3 June), with reports stating around 30 German police officers and forensic experts will be taking part in the new investigation.
Madeleine disappeared on a family holiday in the resort of Praia da Luz in 2007, in what has become one of the most reported-on missing persons cases in history.

Her parents went out for dinner and left her sleeping in an apartment room with her siblings, and she hasn't been seen since.
"We are aware of the searches being carried by the BKA (German federal police) in Portugal as part of their investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann," a spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police said.
"The Metropolitan Police Service is not present at the search, we will support our international colleagues where necessary."

Mark Williams-Thomas - a former British police detective who is known for his work on the McCann case, as well other high-profile cases around the world - claimed on X yesterday (2 June) that 'the police in Portugal are going to search for the German police - the areas surrounding where Christian B (CB) rented a small farm building'.

It comes after Portuguese police reportedly closed off dirt roads in the area where searches will be taking place on Monday.
Tents have been set up near a cottage once lived in by convicted sex offender Christian Brueckner, who German prosecutors say is the prime suspect in Madeleine’s disappearance.
Brueckner is serving a seven-year prison sentence in Germany for the rape of an elderly woman at her home in Praia da Luz in 2005 - though he has denied any involvement.
"The search is looking for evidence of Madeleine McCann’s body," Williams-Thomas insisted. "I thoroughly investigated this whole area for my @paramountplus series and we filmed a lot of the area around.

"It was 10 months before Madeleine went missing that CB was last seen at that address."
However, the reporter revealed that he can't 'see any evidence being found'.
Madeleine's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, haven't given up hope as last month marked the 18th anniversary of her disappearance.
Prior to what would be her 22nd birthday, the mum and dad described her as 'beautiful and unique'.
"The years appear to be passing even more quickly and whilst we have no significant news to share, our determination to ‘leave no stone unturned’ is unwavering," they said in a statement. "We will do our utmost to achieve this."
