Nine children and two adults have been hospitalised after a reported chemical leak at a leisure centre swimming pool in Wembley.

The incident took place at Everyone Active sports centre in Vale Farm, Wembley, on Thursday (29 August).

Ambulance crews, incident response officers and members of the hazardous area response team (HART) were attendance at the scene.

The London Ambulance Service said that nine children and two adults were treated at the scene before they are taken to hospital.

"We were called at 1.34pm today (29 August) to reports of a chlorine leak on Watford Road, Wembley," the London Ambulance Service said in a statement.

"We sent a number of resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, incident response officers and members of our hazardous area response team (HART).

"We treated nine children and two adults at the scene before taking them all to hospital."

A spokesperson for Met Police added: “Police were called at 13:40hrs on Thursday, 29 August to reports of a chlorine leak at a pool in Watford Road, Wembley.

“Officers, the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade are in attendance.

“The leisure centre has been evacuated as a precaution and road closures are in place.”

In an update, Chris Williams, area contract manager, told LADbible: “The centre was evacuated at 1:40pm today (29 August) after excess chlorine was released into the pool. Some customers were taken to hospital as a precaution, and no colleagues were injured. The incident was isolated to the pool area, but we closed the whole building as a precautionary measure.

“Safety is our top priority and we are taking this incident very seriously. We are conducting a full investigation into the cause and will implement necessary measures to prevent similar occurrences in future.

“The centre reopened at 4:00pm today and we plan to reopen the pool at 6:30am tomorrow, after thorough safety checks. We sincerely apologise to all affected customers and will provide an update as soon as we can.”

According to This Is Local London, Everyone Active said Vale Farm Sports Centre swimming pool remains closed until further notice.

But it seems that all of the other facilities have now reopened as normal.

Everyone Active boasts a 'state-of-the-art 107 station gym - alongside a 36 station dedicated women's only gym'.

On the website, the leisure centre claims to have 'two pools in which we host our award-winning swimming lessons, as well as our huge range of group fitness classes - including group cycling in our dedicated studio, we offer a range of activities for you to enjoy'.

It adds: "We also boast a large sports hall in which you can enjoy five-a-side football, badminton and gymnastics, as well as a table tennis area while you can also enjoy our 3G outdoor football pitch.

"We also boast a dance studio, a health suite to help you relax and have two conference rooms available for hire."
