Robert Maudsley has reportedly gone on hunger strike in protest at the way he is being treated in prison.

Maudsley, sometimes described as Britain's most dangerous prisoner, has spent most of his life behind bars and the majority of that in HMP Wakefield where he spent several decades in solitary confinement.

Last year he was moved to HMP Whitemoor, and he complained about the way he was being treated there as he told a family member that the guards were not trying to interact with him but expected him to speak to them.

He told his nephew he planned to go on a hunger strike, and the Daily Mirror reports that he is on one and is refusing prison food.

His girlfriend Loveinia Grace MacKenney, 71, told them that Maudsley feels 'threatened' and doesn't want to see medical staff or eat food, which is making her worried.

"He feels intimidated," she said.

"He feels bullied and he is at an age when he is extremely vulnerable. He is refusing to interact with staff because he cannot trust them. He does not want to see the psychologist.

"They want to discuss the trauma of his early life when he was attacked and abused and he does not want to go through that again.

"He has not had any visits and is refusing food again, he has gone on hunger strike, refusing food for the past two months.

"He will not see any nurses or medical staff, he has had enough. I am very worried about his health and state of mind."

MacKenney says that Maudsley 'does not sound like the same person' and instead 'sounds very weak'.

The 73-year-old was sent to Broadmoor hospital back in 1974 after he killed John Farrell, who had picked Maudsley up for sex and shown him images of child sexual abuse.

He had turned himself over to the police saying he needed psychiatric help, and while in Broadmoor in 1977 he and another inmate tortured and murdered child molester David Francis.

Sent to HMP Wakefield where he has spent the majority of his life, Maudsley later killed sex offender Salney Darwood and paedophile Bill Roberts before telling a prison guard there would be 'two short on the roll call'.

Maudsley then spent a long time in solitary confinement which he described as 'one long period of unbroken depression', before later being transferred to HMP Whitemoor.

He is Britain's longest serving prisoner, and has gone on hunger strike in protest at his treatment in the past.
