A woman who was found guilty of killing her three-month-old with a hairdryer has been disowned by her mother.

Courtney Gartshore cried as she was convicted of culpable homicide last week following a seven day trial at the High Court in Aberdeen, Scotland.

In wake of the jury's verdict, the 28-year-old's mother Leanne has vowed that she will 'never speak to' her again - while saying she has been left 'disgusted' by the details that emerged in court.

Gartshore's daughter Dahlia-Rose sadly passed away on 30 September, 2023, in wake of suffering burns to 18 percent of the surface area of her tiny body.

The tragic tot had been exposed to heat from a hairdryer and the court heard how testing showed that the appliance reached temperatures of up to 90C, the BBC reported. Her DNA was found on the hairdryer.

Burns expert Dr Timothy Burge told the court that although it was possible that this caused Dahlia-Rose's death, he suspected that the little girl could also have been 'already dead'.

Her official cause of death has not been established.

Gartshore was arrested and charged a month after the deadly incident in the town of Peterhead, before going on trial earlier this month.

She had told friends and family that she believed her daughter died from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) but the court heard Dahlia-Rose's demise was the result of the severe injuries she suffered.

It's said that the baby's injuries had been so severe that a paramedic attending the scene believed the infant was 'decomposing'.

Advocate depute Alan Cameron, prosecuting, maintained that Gartshore and Dahlia-Rose were the only two people in the property that night, concluding that she was the only person who could've turned the appliance on.

'Incredibly difficult' case

Cameron told the jury they did not need to answer the question of why the hairdryer had been turned on, but suggested that alcohol intoxication could've been a possible factor.

Gartshore will be sentenced on 14 August.

Detective Inspector James Callander described the case as 'incredibly disturbing', as he said in an earlier statement: "Everyone involved in this investigation was deeply affected by the circumstances of Dahlia-Rose's death, but our job is to uncover the truth and ensure that the person responsible is brought to justice.

"I would like to express sincere thanks to everyone who supported what was an incredibly difficult and sensitive enquiry."

Gartshore, who sobbed in the dock as the jury returned a guilty verdict, had initially received support from a number of her immediate family members, including her mother Leanne.

The pair reportedly headed on holiday to Turkey in May last year while the 28-year-old was awaiting trial, before pictures were shared of them on social media alongside the hashtags 'family' and 'party time'.

According to the Press and Journal, Leanne had previously said that she would 'stand by' her daughter.

However, the outlet reported that the mum later had a huge change of heart, as she said prior to Gartshore's conviction: "The stories coming out [in court] have disgusted me, and I realise I have been lied to."

Gartshore's father is said to have attended court proceedings each day.

And according to The Sun, Leanne has since shared a scathing social media post announcing that she no longer wants to maintain a relationship with her child.

It is said to read: "To my 'daughter'. However long you get won’t be long enough. And I will never speak to you again as long as I have breath in my body.

"I defended a down and out liar and a f*****g good actress."
