People Can't Get Over Bizarre New Year's Eve Captain Tom Tribute

As the UK tried to celebrate New Year's Eve in some capacity, the annual light show in London went ahead - but people were confused by a bizarre drone tribute to Captain Tom.

A pyrotechnics and light show blasted off from Tower Bridge, with projections filling the sky over the O2 Arena.

Aired on the BBC, it included tributes to the Black Lives Matter movement, alongside other symbols that represent the strange, unexpected year that was 2020.

One moment showed the NHS logo in a heart shape, while a child's voice said 'Thank you NHS heroes'. But one bit of the show that really got people talking was the depiction of Captain Tom.

And of course, Twitter being Twitter, people couldn't help but joke about the tribute to the famous centenarian, who raised £33m for the NHS this year. Some thought the drone show was slightly sinister:

The 100-year-old former British Army Officer, originally from Yorkshire, became a national treasure this year after he raised £33 million for the NHS by completing 100 laps of his back garden.
