"It's ridiculous," said his Mum. "I tried to put a chip in a McDonald's straw. It doesn't fit."

A 13-year-old boy is facing assault charges after after using straw to fire a chip at a woman in a branch of McDonald's.

The young boy has been accused of starting an altercation that also involved three of his mates and four young women, who were also in the restaurant at the time.

The fight began in the McDonald's in the Broadway Shopping Centre in Hammersmith, West London, last November and later spilled out of the restaurant.

The three others boys were also charged with assault, with one pleading guilty, another accepting a caution and the third still to be tried.

The cops described the incident as "assault by using a straw to fire a chip, hitting a woman in the face" in their charge report and later charged the boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, with assault.

The 13-year-old boy later accepted a police caution rather than dispute the charge, but his mother was astonished that her son had been charged at all.

"It's ridiculous," she told The Sun. "I tried to put a chip in a McDonald's straw. It doesn't fit." I think that's called missing the point, but there you go.

She described the case as a waste of money and said that her son had actually been firing an empty straw wrapper at his friend rather than a chip.

McDonald's staff are no strangers to weird events taking place on their watch.

Business Insider recently a ran a piece that asked former Maccies workers to share their strangest experiences from their time working at the fast food giant, with many detailing the day-to-day stresses that come with working under the Golden Arches.

"I've had people throw a fit when I didn't give them ketchup by default - the customer is supposed to ask for it - or when I didn't give all of the extra sauces they want without charging them," said one former worker from New York.

"I have seen a half-eaten fudge sundae in the women's bathroom," said another from Illinois. "It was sitting on the toilet, and it was completely melted. I don't know what was wrong with whoever left it there, but to this day I still find it depressingly comical."

We really hope it was a fudge sundae.

"One time, a woman threw her oatmeal at me through the drive-thru window because I was trying to make sure that I heard her coffee order correctly," added another McDonald's employee.

So the next time you find yourself in McDonald's, remember - they have enough to put up with. Just get your burger and get out of there.

And don't eat your chips with a straw.
