Charlie Kirk had an eerie warning before the event in Utah where he was fatally shot, his wife has revealed.

Kirk was shot dead on 10 September while addressing a rally at a college campus in Utah, with a suspect, Tyler Robinson, being arrested and charged with seven counts, including aggravated murder.

The far-right campaigner was known for his hardline views on topics such as the US Civil Rights Act of 1964, which he called a 'mistake', as well as women's rights, LGBTQ+ rights, immigration, and gun violence, about which he said in 2023 that he thought it was 'worth it to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year' to preserve Second Amendment rights.

Kirk's funeral, organised by far-right group Turning Point USA and attended by Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and other US cabinet members, is taking place today.

At a dinner before the final rally where Kirk died, Erika revealed to The New York Times that she had begged him to wear a bulletproof vest.

When Kirk refused to wear a vest, Erika recalled that a friend had suggested that he speak from behind a screen of bulletproof glass to provide some protection, to which the businesswoman said that Kirk had replied: "Not yet".

The podcaster and far-right campaigner had then reportedly added that he had confidence in his security team, and additional security would be present at the event at Utah Valley University.

Erika told the publication that she'd found herself wondering if a part of her husband had accepted a possible death, as she'd occasionally heard him talking about his life potentially being violently cut short.

Kirk's funeral will take place at State Farm Stadium in Arizona today, and the number of high-profile figures in the US expected to attend means the level of security is extremely high.

An official for the Department of Homeland Security spoke to the Washington Post on condition of anonymity.

They said that the funeral would be comparable to events of 'the highest national significance', with security arrangements comparable to high-profile events such as the Super Bowl.

The source said: “This designation is reserved for events of the highest national significance and enables the federal government to provide the full range of law enforcement and security resources necessary to support local officials in ensuring a safe and successful event."

Trump and Vance are scheduled to give a speech at the funeral, which will reportedly also involve calls for voter registration as well as appeals for political donations.
