James Woods thought he was one of the thousands who lost their homes in the destructive LA wildfires.

However, the 77-year-old actor was stunned to find that his property in the Pacific Palisades was still in tact.

With mass evacuations taking place across California, the Once Upon a Time in America star said it was a 'miracle' that his residence wasn't burnt down too.

Taking to X, he shared the remains of the surrounding properties in his neighbourhood, writing: "We managed to get to our property and our home, that we were told is gone forever, is still standing. In this hellish landscape ‘standing’ is relative, but smoke and other damage is not like the utter destruction around us."

Although he was 'so happy and grateful', the film star added: "It’s so fundamentally gut-wrenching and upsetting, it’s almost hard to celebrate the joyous news that our home survived.

"While we rejoice to find our house intact, in the midst of a hellscape like this, you can only think of your neighbours.

"I was so certain our house was gone a day ago, but the fickle finger of fate decided otherwise."

In one video shared on X, he showed a young man named Francis helping out.

Woods explained that himself and a neighbour helped Francis’s 94-year-old father evacuate.

"Francis, whose father we saved, is now putting out fires now on our hillside," he said.

"The man on the left, Robert Trinkkeller, is a hero.

"By the grace of God, he stayed behind when the evacuation order was given.

"When I called the man on the right, our neighbor, in Boston to be sure his 94 year-old father had been evacuated, he was devastated that a replacement caregiver had left his father behind."

Before realising his house was still there, the two-time Emmy winner was forced to evacuate the property, as he said on social media: “We were blessed to have LA fire and police depts doing their jobs so well. We are safe and out…Can not speak more highly of the LA fire and LAPD.

“It tests your soul, losing everything at once, I must say.”

Issuing a heartfelt message to his followers, he penned: "We renovated a home after COVID and just finished last month.

"To all the lovely people offering care and love, I’ll say this.

"There is no possession as priceless as friends and good neighbors during a tragedy. I can’t believe the blessings we enjoy, and I am humbly grateful."
